Every Friday, I have the pleasure of sharing a snippet or two from my reading adventures—whether it’s from a book I’m currently diving into, a future pick waiting on my shelf, or a delightful surprise from my library. I’ll link this post to The Friday 56 meme, hosted by My Head Full of Books.
For at least ten years, there hadn't been enough beaver left to stack them up and trade like the old days, and, anyway, the traders didn't want them as much. Just winter-coat buffalo robes, as many as we could bring in, so that we had to imagine all the napikwans in their big camps huddled in buffalo robes, making it look like the buffalo never went away, they just stayed in place, let the buildings and roads come up around them until they forgot they were grass-eaters, started standing in lines at banks and mailing letters.

I've heard this book is very good. Have you finished it yet? Is it a vampire story? Who is the Buffalo Hunter hunter?
ReplyDeleteAlso made me think of the darling children's book just published: Buffalo Fluffalo. Look for it!
DeleteI'll start reading sometime over the weekend. I don't know who or what the title is referring to. I don't think there are vampires in it. It's an American Indian revenge story.
DeleteI'm really looking forward to reading this one. :)
ReplyDeleteI've heard really good things about this book! It's in my TBR alongside a billion other books but I *will get to it eventually ;-) Hope you enjoy it!
